Location

Thalkote Wewa

The only view of Sigiriya nobody climbs to see

Thalkote Wewa Kayaking puts you on the calm waters of an ancient irrigation tank just minutes from Sigiriya Rock Fortress - not looking up at it from a trail, but watching it rise above the treeline as you paddle.

This one-hour guided experience is led by a trained naturalist who will introduce you to the water flowers, birds, and aquatic life that make Thalkote Wewa one of the most ecologically rich tanks in the Cultural Triangle. Whether you're a first-time kayaker or simply looking for a quieter way to experience Sigiriya, our guides handle training, safety, and storytelling from start to finish.

It's a slower, closer, and altogether different side of one of Sri Lanka's most visited destinations.

Operation Hours

No fixed session times - simply arrive at the location and we'll get you on the water. Sessions are available daily from 7.00 AM to 5.30 PM. Evening arrivals are welcome if you'd like to catch the sunset from the lake.

7:00 AM - 5:30 PM

⚠️ Temporary Operations Pause at Thalkote Wewa

Location

Sigiriya

Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka's most recognised destinations - a UNESCO World Heritage Site built around the colossal Lion Rock Fortress that has defined the island's Cultural Triangle for over 1,500 years. But beyond the climb and the ancient frescoes, Sigiriya holds a quieter, wilder side that most visitors never reach - ancient irrigation tanks, paddy-lined village trails, rich birdlife, and open jungle that stretches toward Minneriya and beyond. It sits at the centre of Sri Lanka's northern dry zone, where history, nature, and rural life exist in the same frame. For adventurers, Sigiriya is not just a monument - it is a base for experiences that go far deeper than the summit.

Amazing kayaking spot near Sigiriya!

Fantastic experience! Stunning views of Sigiriya Rock and the nearby mountain. The staff is very polite and welcoming, and they provide all the gear (paddles, life jackets). It’s super kid-friendly and safe for the whole family. We got so carried away by the views that we literally forgot to pay, and the team politely reminded us. Thank you for your patience and great service!

I recommend choosing a morning or evening.

We went kayaking in Thelkote Wewa & it was a wonderful experience! The ride was around one hour, and it was definitely worth the price, which is very reasonable. The staff were friendly and generous. You can call them in advance and arrange a convenient time. We went at noon on a rainy day, but if you’re planning to go, I recommend choosing a morning or evening to enjoy the beautiful sunrise or sunset while kayaking.
